Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?
Therapy is a supportive space where we will work together to explore, better understand, and process areas in which you wish to grow. I will support you in making changes in your life which will help you better reach your goals.

Together we will work to identify what your goals are. I will use my training, expertise, understanding of clinical theory, and clinical techniques to support you in reaching your goals.

The most important part of therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. In successful therapeutic relationships there needs to be mutual respect, safety, trust, empathy, clear communication, and shared goals.

What areas do people seek therapy for?
Common areas which people see therapy are: anxiety, depressed mood, working through traumatic events, lack of family or friend support, exploring your identity, areas where you want to grow and improve upon yourself, and the loss of a loved one.

What outcomes can I expect?
In our shared work, we will create a treatment plan that matches the areas you wish to work on. As every person is different, there is no way to guarantee how long therapy will last or to guarantee outcomes. However, clients who willingly engage in the process show better outcomes. Therapy at times can be difficult as you will often explore painful or difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences. This can bring-up strong emotions. I will support you and do my best to understand who you are, and in exploring repeating patterns and their impact on your life. I will also help you clarify what it is that that you wish to work on.

What clients do you work with?
I am only providing individual treatment to adults at this time.

I have worked with clients from many backgrounds who presented with many issues. However, I love working with individuals seeking support on anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, medical disability, fertility challenges, adoption, and adult children of abusive parents.

I enjoy working with young adults, women who are experiencing menopause/peri-menopause, and older adults.

I also love working with those who are in the LGTBQI+ community.

Do you see clients in-person and/or through telehealth?
I see clients at both my Croton-on-Hudson office and via telehealth.

What is your education?
Columbia School of Social Work, MSW (2005).
Hunter College School of Social Work, Post-Masters Program in Advanced Clinical Social Work With Individuals (2010).
The William Alanson White Institute, Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychoanalysis Program (2011).

What is a screening or a consultation call?
A screening or a consultation call is where information such as what you would like to work on, what goals you have, and what you are looking for in therapy are explored. It is also where important information such as office policies, fees, scheduling, and whether you'd like to use insurance are reviewed. In the call you we will discuss what therapy might look like, including the type, duration, and possible risks and benefits. If it feels like a good fit, the next step would be to complete intake paperwork- and if insurance is being used to verify your coverage.

The call, on average, is 15 minutes.

What to expect on your first visit?
In the first session you and your therapist explore what you wish to work on, important relationships, patterns in your life, important events in your life, what your struggles and strengths are, what your goals are, and what is important to you. An initial treatment plan will be created, based on this information, shortly after your session. This plan is updated regularly to reflect your progress and evolving needs.
